Vapor Degreasers >
Solvent vapor cleaning is one of the most effective, efficient and quickest methods of precision cleaning.
It incorporates precision cleaning, rinsing, quick drying and solvent reclamation allin one compact, safe and cost-effective piece of equipment. For these reasons, it is a very cost-effective and efficient process for a wide variety of industrial cleaning applications.

Due to the increasing need for environmentally friendlier and safer industrial cleaning practices, concerns raised in the last decade over the environmental, health and safety impacts of traditional vapor cleaning solvents have driven the development of alternative solvent chemistries and modifications to the vapor cleaning equipment. Hazardous chlorinated solvents have been modified or replaced to minimize ozone depletion potential and other safety hazards. Equipment designs and operating processes have been re-engineered and improved to reduce solvent losses and worker exposures to nearly zero. All Baron Blakeslee low emission solvent degreasers are designed to meet NESHAP regulations and even the strictest local environmental regulations.

The addition of a Baron Blakeslee solvent degreaser to your industrial cleaning program can provide many short and long term benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What is a Vapor Degreaser?
A solvent vapor degreaser is a tank with a heating system to bring solvent to the boiling point with a means of preventing the escape of vapors, typically water or refrigerant cooled coils, in the upper (freeboard) section.

What does it do?
If the solvent is properly selected, contamination will be removed from the part being cleaned by condensation and dissolution and fall to the liquid solvent in the boil sump, where it will remain. The solvent vapors will always consist of pure, uncontaminated solvent in a properly functioning system.

How does it work?
The selected solvent is heated within the tank, which will generate a vapor. The vaporized solvent is maintained in the tank by means of a cold air blanket generated by cooling coils which condense the vapor back to a liquid. The liquid solvent is collected in a trough and directed to a water separator (to remove free water) and then to a spray reservoir where it collects until filled, and finally overflowing back into the tank.

How does it clean?
Parts to be cleaned are suspended in the vapor zone. Solvent condenses on the parts to dissolve the contaminants. As the condensed solvent drains from the part, it carries off the contaminants and returns to the boiling liquid.

Liquid Immersion -Vapor cleaning is often augmented by mechanical action such as liquid immersion, or spraying the work with liquid (distillate) solvent in the vapor zone. The work is held in the vapor zone for final rinsing and drying until the parts reach thermal equilibrium with the heated solvent vapor. The parts are then slowly withdrawn from the machine to the freeboard area to dry. The process is a safe, rapid, economical procedure for preparing dry, clean parts for finishing or fabricating steps, usually without further treatment.

Ultrasonic -Ultrasonics may be used to further enhance the cleaning capability. Adding ultrasonics to a liquid immersion sump greatly improves the cleaning of blind holes and crevices on a part that cannot normally be cleaned by solvent action alone.  Ultrasonic cavitation is a process whereby void spaces, or bubbles, are constantly formed and imploded in the liquid solvent.  When this process takes place at the surface of a part, it creates a mechanical scrubbing effect that is very successful in removing and dissolving difficult to remove contaminants.
